Gangnam

After our stop at the 2D Cafe, we headed over to Gangnam because I needed to check out my Korean school. I’ll be attending it next week, so I wanted to figure out how to get there beforehand. Finding the school was a breeze, and afterwards, we treated ourselves to a nice lunch nearby. I have a feeling I’ll be visiting that place quite a bit next week.

Po wizycie w 2D Cafe udaliśmy się do Gangnam, ponieważ musiałam sprawdzić swoją koreańską szkołę. Będę do niej uczęszczać przez kolejny tydzień, więc chciałam dowiedzieć się, jak tam dotrzeć. Znalezienie szkoły było proste, a potem zafundowaliśmy sobie miły lunch w jej pobliżu. Mam przeczucie, że będę odwiedzać to miejsce dość często w przyszłym tygodniu.

Namsan (남산)

As the day winds down, we arrive at Namsan, or if you prefer South Mountain, where the 270-meter-high peak offers a serene escape from the city center. Here, the Namsan Seoul Tower has stood tall for over 40 years, proudly marking its place as one of Korea's iconic landmarks. The mountain is enveloped by Namsan Park, a lovely public space cared for by the city, which treats visitors to sweeping views of Seoul.

We decided to take the cable car to the summit, and were greeted by a breathtaking sunset that bathed the city in vibrant hues of orange and red.

Gdy dzień pomału dobiega końca, docieramy do Namsan, co przetłumaczyć można jako Południowa Góra. Tu, na 270-metrowym szczycie od ponad 40 lat króluje wieża Namsan Seoul Tower, jedno z najpopularniejszych miejsc wśród i turystów i mieszkańców Seulu. Namsan oferuje bowiem odwiedzającym rozległe widoki na miasto.

Postanowiliśmy wjechać na szczyt kolejką linową i zostaliśmy tu obejrzeć zachód słońca, który skąpał miasto w żywych odcieniach pomarańczy i czerwieni.

Myeongdong Cathedral (명동 성당)

After breakfast, we go to see the nearby cathedral. Myeongdong Cathedral of the Virgin Mary was built in 1898 in neogothic style by French missionaries. It is made of red brick and has a tall, pointed steeple. The cathedral's interior is spacious and airy, with a high ceiling and stained-glass windows. We do not take pictures inside not to disturb people.

Po śniadaniu udajemy się na zwiedzanie pobliskiej katedry. Katedra Najświętszej Maryi Panny w Myeongdong została zbudowana w 1898 roku, w stylu neogotyckim, przez francuskich misjonarzy. Jest zbudowana z czerwonej cegły i ma charakterystyczną wysoką, spiczastą wieżę. Wnętrze katedry jest przestronne i przewiewne, z wysokim sufitem i witrażami, ale nie robimy zdjęć, żeby ludziom nie przeszkadzać.

It is really hot, so we are thirsty. I know there is a café here with a view of the cathedral, and we find it easily. Now we are talking.

Jest naprawdę gorąco, więc już nam się znowu chce pić. Wiem jednak, że jest tu kawiarnia z widokiem na katedrę i bez problemu ją znajdujemy. Teraz to rozumiem.

DDP

Our next stop is the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) or if you prefer Dream, Design, and Play. It is a bold landmark of Seoul, and a cultural hub of the city, designed by world-renowned architect - Zaha Hadid - in a neo-futuristic style. One of Hadid’s nicknames is “the Queen of the Curve”, and that does not require further explanation if you scroll through the gallery below. I feel like I landed on some far-away space station, where everything is strange and beautiful, and a mothership made from organic bioluminescent metal (sounds like a contradiction? Well, the future is not so simple) is docked in the centre. Today's short visit here is just the first of many to come in the future because I already love the place…

Naszym następnym przystankiem jest Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) lub jeśli ktoś woli Dream, Design i Play. To miejsce jest ikonicznym punktem orientacyjnym Seulu i kulturalnym centrum miasta, zaprojektowanym przez światowej sławy architektkę - Zahę Hadid - w stylu neo-futurystycznym. Jeden z pseudonimów Hadid to „Królowa Krzywizn”, co nie wymaga dalszych wyjaśnień, jeśli ktoś by popatrzy na galerię poniżej. Czuję się, jakbym wylądowała na jakiejś odległej stacji kosmicznej, gdzie wszystko jest dziwne i piękne, a pośrodku zadokowany jest statek-matka z organicznego bioluminescencyjnego metalu (Brzmi jak sprzeczność? Cóż, przyszłość nie jest taka prosta)…  Dzisiejsza krótka wizyta tutaj jest tylko pierwszą z wielu, które pojawią się w przyszłości, ponieważ już wiem, że uwielbiam to miejsce…

Amore Pacific

Glass houses of Yongsan are so nice we decide to walk around for a while. And this is how we end up in front of the Amore Pacific headquarters. We have to come back here one day and explore the place thoroughly. Today we just play around the artsy fountain for a while  and then  take the subway to The Design Plaza.

Szklane domy w Yongsan są tak ładne, że postanawiamy chwilę pospacerować po okolicy. I tak lądujemy przed główną siedzibą Amore Pacific. Musimy tu kiedyś wrócić i dokładnie sobie tu wszystko obejrzeć, ale dzisiaj robimy tylko kilka zdjęć artystycznej fontanny i łapiemy metro do DDP.
