Organika Bakery & Coffee

Two museums later, it was definitely time for a break. We stopped by Organika Bakery & Coffee, run by the same owners as Yaku, and connected to it. Since the café was pretty busy, we took a seat in Yaku instead, where we enjoyed some pastries and my favourite herbal tea.

Dwa muzea później przyszła pora na małą przerwę. Wdepnęliśmy więc do Organika Bakery & Coffee, prowadzonej przez tych samych właścicieli, co Yaku i połączonej z tą restauracją. Ponieważ w samej kawiarni było sporo ludzi, usiedliśmy w Yaku, gdzie mogliśmy spokojnie zjeść ciastka i wypić moją ulubioną herbatę ziołową.

Café des Épices

After a sleepless night, we are going to take it easy today. So, we lazily walk to Café des Épices, trading the hushed seclusion of a riad for the rhythmic pulse of the medina

The café is located in the heart of Rahba Kedima (the vibrant Spice Square). Much like the architecture of Kbour & Chou, it serves as a masterclass in textures - though here, the palette shifts from lush garden greens to the warm, sun-baked ochres and terracottas of the desert.

The design is a nod to "Beldi" chic - a refined, rustic simplicity. The walls are finished in a raw, earthy Tadelakt in shades of sand and apricot, providing a calm backdrop to the vibrant mounds of cumin and saffron sold just outside. Interior spaces feature dark wood accents, simple straw hats used as wall décor, and windows that frame the square like living postcards. The café opts for a clean, almost cinematic Moroccan vibe.

Po nieprzespanej nocy stawiamy dziś na powolne tempo. Idziemy sobie więc leniwym sacerem w stronę Café des Épices, zamieniając ciszę i spokój naszego riadu na rytm i puls medyny.

Kawiarnia ta to legendarne miejsce w samym sercu Rahba Kedima (tętniącego życiem Placu Przypraw). Podobnie jak w architekturze Kbour & Chou, mamy tu do czynienia z prawdziwym mistrzowskim operowaniem teksturą – z tą różnicą, że paleta barw zmienia się z soczystej ogrodowej zieleni na ciepłe, wypalone słońcem ochry i pustynną terakotę.

Wystrój to ukłon w stronę stylu „Beldi chic”- wyrafinowanej, rustykalnej prostoty. Ściany wykończone surowym, ziemistym tadelaktem w odcieniach piasku i moreli stanowią spokojne tło dla jaskrawych kopców kuminu i szafranu, sprzedawanych tuż za progiem. Wnętrza zdobią akcenty z ciemnego drewna, słomkowe kapelusze na ścianach i okna, które kadrują widok na plac niczym pocztówki.

The ground floor is open to the square, a place for a quick espresso while watching herb sellers and carpet merchants haggle. The middle floor is more intimate and shaded, offering small "pockets" of seating—ideal for escaping the midday heat while still hearing the muffled roar of the market below. The rooftop terrace is the café’s crown jewel, providing a panoramic view of the "Red City." On clear days, the Atlas Mountains provide a jagged, snow-capped backdrop to the terracotta skyline. Some say it is the best spot in the medina to watch the sunset turn the square into a sea of long shadows and deep ambers.

Parter otwiera się bezpośrednio na plac - to idealne miejsce na szybkie espresso. Piętro jest bardziej kameralne i zacienione, oferując przytulne zakamarki pozwalające uciec przed częstym tu upałem. Taras na dachu to jednak prawdziwa tutejsza perła w koronie, oferująca panoramiczny widok na „Czerwone Miasto”. W pogodne dni góry Atlas stanowią postrzępione, pokryte śniegiem tło dla terakotowej linii horyzontu. Niektórzy nawet twierdzą, że to najlepszy punkt w medynie, by obserwować zachód słońca, który zmienia plac w morze długich cieni na tle głębokiego bursztynu.

The food here is designed for the light-drenched terrace lifestyle. Their signature spiced coffee (infused with ginger and cinnamon) is a sensory bridge to the market below. Their mint tea is served traditionally, often accompanied by fresh pastries. The menu focuses on "market-to-table" simplicity and everything is delicious.

Tutejsza kuchnia idealnie pasuje do skąpanego w słońcu tarasu. Ich popisowa kawa z przyprawami (imbirem i cynamonem) to sensoryczny pomost łączący kawiarnię z targiem poniżej. Herbata miętowa podawana jest tradycyjnie, często w towarzystwie świeżych wypieków. Menu stawia na prostotę w duchu „market-to-table”, a wszystkie dania, które zamówiliśmy były pyszne.

Amalfi Afternoon Tea

This summer has brought a delightful touch of Italy to Eastleigh, thanks to the Garden Society’s exquisite Amalfi Afternoon Tea combining a modern twist with beloved Italian classics.

Garden Society zabrało nas w ten weekend w kulinarna podróż do Włoch dzięki ich Amalfi Afternoon Tea, serwując ukochane włoskie klasyki z małą nutką…. nie, nie tyle dekadencji, co nowoczesnego podejścia do kuchni.

The savoury selection was great. Our standout favourite was undoubtedly the Peach & Prosciutto Skewers. This charming  little dish perfectly balanced the sweetness of ripe peaches with the savoury richness of prosciutto. Also worth mentioning was the delightful Mini Burrata.

Z części nie słodkiej, naszym ulubionym daniem były szaszłyki z brzoskwinią i prosciutto.To urocze małe danie idealnie równoważyło słodycz dojrzałych brzoskwiń z wytrawnym bogactwem prosciutto. Mini Burrata także była przepyszna.

Moving on to the sweet selections, the Tiramisu Éclair was a particular highlight; it captured the essence of the classic Italian dessert while adding a unique twist that made it incredibly indulgent. And of course, we couldn’t forget the quintessential British element of afternoon tea: scones with clotted cream. Fluffy and warm, they were the perfect finishing touch to an already lavish spread.

Yes, the calories may have piled up, but every delightful bite was entirely worth it.

Przechodząc do deserów, szczególnym hitem były eklery tiramisu oraz oczywiście kwintesencja brytyjskiej popołudniowej herbaty - skony z clotted cream (clotted cream to bardzo, bardzo gęsty krem ze śmietany).

Tak, kalorie mogły się co nieco skumulować, ale każdy pyszny kęs był tego wart.

The lemon sorbet arrived a bit too frozen, but we managed and it was still very refreshing.

Cytrynowy sorbet był trochę za mocno zamrożony, ale daliśmy mu radę i nie wpłynęło to na jego smak.

Battersea Ligh Festival - part 2 (Bao and Kova)

For late lunch, we decided to pop into the renowned Taiwanese BAO noodle bar. They serve a selection of steaming bowls of aromatic beef noodle soups, bao buns and truly delicious small bites known as xiao chi. We order Taiwanese fried chicken, cheese croquettes, slow-cooked beef cheek and shoulder noodle broth, and fried Horlick ice-cream bao bun as well as beer and tea.

Na późny lunch postanowiliśmy wpaść do słynnego tajwańskiego BAO. Podają tu parujące miski aromatycznych rosołów wołowych z makaronem, bułek bao i naprawdę pysznych przekąsek nazywanych tu xiao chi. Zamawiamy kurczaka smażonego po tajwańsku, krokiety serowe, wolno gotowany bulion z policzków i łopatki wołowej, bao z lodami Horlick oraz piwo i herbatę.

It is not yet dark when we finish, so we venture down Electric Boulevard marvelling at the futuristic architecture of Zara’s flagship store.

Kiedy kończymy, nie jest jeszcze ciemno, więc idziemy na spacer wzdłuż Electric Boulevard, podziwiając futurystyczną architekturę flagowego sklepu Zary.

And we still have time for a cake and tea (me) or coffee (Marcin) so we stop at Kova, a Japanese patisserie serving delightful cakes and bubble teas.

I wciąż mamy jeszcze czas na ciasto i herbatę (ja) lub kawę (Marcin), więc zatrzymujemy się w Kova, japońskiej cukierni serwującej pyszne ciasta.

EL&N Wardour Street

We are meeting my friend Jen today, so we decided to have our lunch in the same café EL&N at Wardour Street. It turns out to be very busy today but we are lucky and after 10-15 minutes of waiting we land at the table for four.

​Spotykamy się dzisiaj z moją koleżanką, Jen, więc postanowiliśmy zjeść lunch w tej samej kawiarni - E&L przy Wardour Street. Okazuje się, że dzisiaj jest bardzo tłoczno, ale mamy szczęście i już po 10-15 minutach oczekiwania lądujemy przy stoliku dla czterech osób.

We order truffle cacio e pepe and Dutch baby pancakes, which are delicious. My matcha is also great if surprisingly bitter. Marcin makes up for it with his very sweet latte.

Zamawiamy truflowe cacio e pepe i holenderskie mini naleśniki i wszystko jest pyszne. Moja matcha jest również świetna, choć zaskakująco gorzka. Marcin nadrabia to bardzo słodką latte.

And then Jen and her daughter join us, and the cake bonanza begins. We make a selection of some traditional ones and some Halloween specials. Yes, it definitely is a serious sugar overload…
