Chelsea in Bloom: Flowers on Film

This year's Chelsea in Bloom takes inspiration straight from the silver screen. Under the theme “Flowers on Film”, floral installations across the Chelsea district bring iconic movie moments to life — from larger-than-life characters to scenes etched in cinematic history. From Sloane Street to Sloane Square, along King’s Road, and throughout Duke of York Square, more than 100 displays transform the neighbourhood into a vibrant, petal-covered celebration of film.

Tegoroczna edycja festiwalu Chelsea in Bloom przenosi odwiedzających prosto do świata kina. Tematem przewodnim jest bowiem „Flowers on Film”, czyli kwiaty na ekranie. Dzielnica Chelsea zamieniła się w wielką, otwartą galerię instalacji inspirowanych filmami – od klasyki po popkulturowe hity. Ponad 100 ekspozycji rozmieszczonych jest wzdłuż Sloane Street, na Sloane Square, wzdłuż King’s Road i w okolicach Duke of York Square.

The floral trail begins at the Carlton Tower Jumeirah, where a striking recreation of King Kong, crafted entirely from black moss, dangles dramatically from the hotel’s entrance. A second Kong makes an appearance nearby — this time clutching the Big Ben, towering at the corner of Sloane Street and Cadogan Place.

Jedna z pierwszych instalacji znajduje się przy hotelu Carlton Tower Jumeirah – ogromna figura King Konga, wykonana z czarnego mchu, zwisa dramatycznie nad wejściem. Kolejna wersja tej kultowej postaci pojawia się nieco dalej, gdzie Kong wspina się na wieżę Big Bena przy skrzyżowaniu Sloane Street i Cadogan Place.

Several brands have embraced the theme with their own creative interpretations. Meadows from various movies make a popular plot. For example, Jo Malone offers a botanical tribute to the British landscape as seen through the lens of film — wildflowers like thistles, heather, and lavender evoke the spirit of the Scottish Highlands. Me+EM follows a similar path, designing a wildflower meadow inspired by David Attenborough’s nature documentaries. LK Bennett takes a more nostalgic turn with pastel-hued blooms reminiscent of My Fair Lady.

Szczególnie popularnym tematem jest łąka. Na przykład, Jo Malone stworzyło instalację inspirowaną brytyjskimi krajobrazami widzianymi w filmach – dzikie kwiaty, lawenda, wrzosy i osty przywodzą na myśl szkockie wyżyny. Marka Me+EM przygotowała łąkę pełną dzikich roślin, nawiązując do dokumentów przyrodniczych Davida Attenborough, a LK Bennett postawiło na pastelowe kompozycje, które przywołują klimat musicalu My Fair Lady.

The floral journey takes a dramatic turn at The Sloane Club, where My Fair Lady is again brought to life in a show-stopping display. Two elegant women, dressed in period costumes straight from the iconic film, are positioned alongside a life-sized horse.

My Fair Lady pojawia się także w efektownej instalacji przy Sloane Club. Dwie eleganckie kobiety, urbane w kostiumy z epoki, stoją obok konia w rzeczywistej wielkości.

Tiffany & Co. takes inspiration from Breakfast at Tiffany’s, featuring a giant version of Audrey Hepburn’s iconic pearl necklace, while Cartier transforms its storefront with elegant white flowers. Just around the corner, Hackett embraces the glamour of Murder on the Orient Express, with their façade evoking the luxury of Agatha Christie’s famous train.

On Sloane Square, a scene from Jurassic Park is brought to life with a T-rex devouring a person made entirely of grass and flowers, surrounded by movie cameras and a clapperboard.

Na Sloane Square ożywa scena z Jurassic Park, gdzie T-rex pożera postać zrobioną w całości z trawy i kwiatów, a całość uzupełniają kamery filmowe i klaps reżyserski.

Not far away, Peter Jones’ window display channels the whimsical world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, while MZ Skin is adorned with pink flowers and floral-covered masks.

Niedaleko, witryna sklepu Peter Jones nawiązuje do bajkowego świata Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a MZ Skin jest ozdobiony różowymi kwiatami i maskami z kwiatowymi motywami.

At Duke of York Square, The Lion King’s “Circle of Life” is reimagined, with Rafiki presenting Simba to an assembly of animals. Nearby, Self-Portrait showcases a giant Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland, whilst Cole & Son’s display on Jubilee Place features large playing cards and red roses, also inspired by the same classic.

Niedaleko Self-Portrait wystawiło ogromnego kota z Cheshire z Alicji w Krainie Czarów, a ekspozycja Cole & Son na Jubilee Place przedstawia duże karty do gry i czerwone róże, inspirowane tym samym klasykiem.

On King’s Road, Mary Poppins is ready to fly away, surrounded by pastel-coloured carousel horses.

A BAFTA mask installation adds a cinematic touch to Dovehouse Green, celebrating the art of film with floral artistry. And Ivy Chelsea brings scenes from Wind in the Willows, with Mr. Toad and Badger among the wildflowers and wisteria.

Na Dovehouse Green można zobaczyć instalację z kwiatową wersją maski BAFTA — to hołd dla świata kina i jeden z najbardziej symbolicznych punktów całej wystawy. Zaś Ivy Chelsea prezentuje sceny z O czym Szumią Wierzby z Panem Łasicą i Borsukiem wśród dzikich kwiatów i wisterii.

Belgravia in Bloom

Belgravia in Bloom is a flower festival held in Belgravia, London, typically in May. The festival celebrates the beauty of flowers and the art of floristry, showcasing an array of vibrant blooms and creative arrangements. The theme this year is “Into the Wild”. We start from visiting “Eccleston Explorers” with its elephants, bees, giraffes, and monkeys safari-like installations.

Festiwal celebruje piękno kwiatów i sztukę florystyczną, prezentując szereg żywych kwiatów i kreatywnych aranżacji. Tegoroczny temat festiwalu to “Into the Wild”. Zaczynamy naszą wizytę od “Eccleston Exploreres”, gdzie spotykamy słonie, żyrafy, sowy, pszczoły i małpy na wycieczce safari poprzez dżunglę.

During the festival, the streets of Belgravia are transformed into a stunning floral wonderland. From the charming Pimlico Road to the iconic Knightsbridge, and from the elegant Cadogan Square to the bustling Victoria, over 46 participating shops and restaurants wow passers-by with their stunning flower installations. These range from delicate, intricate displays to larger-than-life amazing creations.

On Elisabeth Street, two big panda bears reside among a botanical meadow. There are also some dinosaurs, monkeys and many other delightful flora arrangements. Lush abundance of wild flowers in front of the Les Senteurs perfumery is perhaps out favourite one.

Podczas festiwalu ulice Belgravii zamieniają się we wsplaniały kwiatowy Wonderland. Od uroczej Pimlico Road po kultowy Knightsbridge, od eleganckiego Cadogan Square po tętniącą życiem Victorię, ponad 46 uczestniczących w programie sklepów i restauracji zachwyca przechodniów wspaniałymi instalacjami kwiatowymi. Obejmują one zarówno delikatne, misterne kompozycje, jak i wielkie, szalone instalacje.

Na Elisabeth Street dwa duże niedźwiedzie pandy mieszkają na środku małej łąki. w tych okolicach są też dinozaury, małpy i wiele innych pięknych kompozycji florystycznych. Bujna obfitość dzikich kwiatów przed perfumerią Les Senteurs jest chyba naszą ulubioną.

Kinnerton Street spoils us with Orchids and Butterflies by Judith Blacklock Flower School. The tunnel of orchids transfers us to beautiful rainforests.

Finally, we get to Motocomb street, where magnificent installations of peacocks and foxes rain. From here we will head towards Chelsea.

Wreszcie dochodzimy do ulicy Motocomb, gdzie królują wspaniałe instalacje z pawiami i lisami. Stąd udamy się w stronę Chelsea.

Dopamine Land part 2

In the next room, there is a pool filled with plastic balls and changing coloured lights. My inner Labrador is definitely channeled out here.

W następnym pomieszczeniu czeka na nas basen wypełniony plastikowymi piłeczkami i zmieniające się kolorowe lampki. Tu zdecydowanie wyłazi ze mnie mój wewnętrzny labrador.

Then we go through a dark room with many floating lanterns, where we can lie down on a blanket or bean bags and quiet down a little, a room where we can do shadow puppets on the wall and a room where we can play a type of scrabble.

Następnie przechodzimy przez ciemne pomieszczenie z unoszącymi się pod sufitem lampionami, gdzie możemy położyć się na kocu lub poduszkach z fasolą i trochę się wyciszyć, pomieszczenie, w którym możemy zrobić na ścianie kształty z cienia i pomieszczenie, gdzie możemy zagrać w coś w rodzaju scrabble.

In the digital forest room, we can decompress again. It is yet another room that seems much bigger thanks to the clever use of mirrored walls. And it is sometimes a bit confusing for our senses, but that is the fun of it.

W pokoju z cyfrowym lasem możemy ponownie dokonać dekompresji. To kolejne pomieszczenie, które dzięki sprytnemu zastosowaniu lustrzanych ścian wydaje się znacznie większe. Czasami jest ono trochę mylące dla naszych zmysłów, ale to właśnie część zabawy.

And finally, we visit the Pillow Battle Room. Fake windows in this room are lightened as by storm lightings, “Set you free” by N-Trance blasts from the speakers and a pile of cushioned pillows on the floor is waiting for you to grab them up and throw at others. If you have any energy left, this room will take it all.

Na koniec odwiedzamy Pokój Bitwy na Poduszki. Pozorne okna w tym pokoju rozświetlają burzowe błyskawice, z głośników leci „Set you free” N-Trance, a na podłodze leży stos miękkich poduszek- amunicji do sypialnianej walki. Jeśli zostało nam jeszcze trochę energii, ten pokój ją pochłonie.

And that’s it. We went through all the rooms (took us a while), and now it is time to go back to the colourful bar and quench the first. It really was fun.

Koniec i bomba, kto się źle bawił ten trąba. Trochę nam zajęło przejście przez wszystkie pokoje wiec teraz czas ugasić pragnienie w barze. Podsumowanie: było zajefajnie.

Voyage to the Edge of Imagination

The moment I found out about it, I knew Marcin would love it. So, this weekend we went to London to participate in the “Science Fiction: Voyage to the Edge of Imagination” immersive exhibition hosted in the Science Museum. It was designed by BAFTA and Academy award-winning Creative Studio Framestore. Their mission was: “To investigate how scientists and sci-fi creators have inspired each other to visualise and build new worlds and explore future possibilities the human world may hold.”

It already sounds quite exciting, doesn’t it? And it becomes more so for any fan of sci-fi movies when they learn they can see costumes and exhibits (or their exact replicas) from all sorts of celebrated sci-fi movies, TV series and books.

 The experience starts with us stepping into a space shuttle to travel to the research spacecraft called the Azimuth. From here, guided by an AI assistant, we explore how science and fiction are closely intertwined.

Jak tylko zobaczyłam reklamę, wiedziałam, że Marcinowi się ta wystawa bardzo spodoba. Zatem w ten weekend wybraliśmy się do Londynu, aby wziąć udział w interaktywnym pokazie „Science Fiction: Voyage to the Edge of Imagination” w Muzeum Nauki. Został on zaprojektowany przez Creative Studio Framestore będące laureatem konkursów BAFTA i Academy Awards (Oskary). Misja tego pokazu brzmi: „Zbadać, w jaki sposób naukowcy i twórcy science fiction inspirowali się nawzajem do wizualizacji i budowania nowych światów oraz odkrywania przyszłych możliwości”. Brzmi już całkiem obiecująco, prawda? A staje się to jeszcze bardziej ekscytujące dla każdego fana filmów science-fiction, gdy dowie się, że będzie mógł zobaczyć kostiumy i eksponaty (lub ich dokładne repliki) z wszelkiego rodzaju słynnych filmów, seriali telewizyjnych i książek o tematyce s-fi.

 Nasza przygoda rozpoczyna się od wejścia do promu kosmicznego, aby udać się na badawczy statek kosmiczny zwany Azymutem. Stąd, prowadzeni przez asystującą nam AI, wyruszamy odkrywać, w jaki sposób nauka i fikcja są ze sobą ściśle powiązane.

And the fun of recognising items from the iconic shows begins. Mondoshawan costume from The Fifth Element is the first, followed by a hyper-sleep chamber from Prometheus, a gold spacesuit from Sunshine, Alien costume from Close Encounters of The Third Kind, Dalek from Dr Who, Xenomorph and Cenomorph’s egg from Alien, Iron Man’s armour, Darth Vader’s helmet from The Empire Strikes Back, a model of the U.S.S. Enterprise from Star Trek to name just a few. There are also objects of science relevant to sf movies - a radio telescope used by scientists in their attempts to detect intelligent life, prosthetic body parts, the first peacemaker from 1958, the medical diagnostic unit called DxtER, space suits and many more.

I zaczyna się zabawa w rozpoznawanie przedmiotów z kultowych programów s-fi. Kostium Mondoshawana z Piątego Elementu jest pierwszy, a po nim komora hipersnu z Prometeusza, złoty skafander kosmiczny z Sunshine, kostium Obcego z Bliskich Spotkań Trzeciego Stopnia, Dalek z Dr Who, Xenomorph i jajo Cenomorph’a z Obcego, zbroja Iron Mana, hełm Dartha Vadera z Imperium kontratakuje, model U.S.S. Enterprise ze Star Trek, żeby wymienić tylko kilka. Są też obiekty nauki nawiązujące do filmów sf - radioteleskop używany przez naukowców w próbach wykrycia inteligentnego życia, protezy  różnych części ciała, pierwszy peacemaker z 1958 roku, medyczna jednostka diagnostyczna DxtER, skafandry kosmiczne i wiele, wiele innych.

We go through galleries that look like different chambers of a spaceship, passing the off-world section, where we can communicate with the aliens, responding to us via a murmuration of bioluminescent signs on the dome.

Przechodzimy przez galerie, które wyglądają jak różne kabiny statku kosmicznego, mijając także sekcję „poza światem”, gdzie możemy komunikować się z inna cywilizacja, odpowiadającą nam falowaniem bioluminescencyjnych znaków na kopule.

 Finally, we go through the observation deck, where we can look down on Earth from the space above.

Na koniec patrzymy na Ziemię z pokładu widokowego naszego statku.
