Yuri cottage

Yuri Cottage is a tiny eatery that embraces a minimalistic interior design, creating an inviting yet understated atmosphere. Despite its simplicity, the food is nothing short of delightful. We savoured a diverse mixed platter that included sushi, gyoza, pumpkin croquettes, chicken skewers, seaweed salad, grilled eel, and some more dishes. Our experience was very enjoyable and we’re already looking forward to our next visit!

Yuri Cottage to mała jadłodajnia z minimalistycznym wystrojem wnętrza i zachęcającą, ale stonowaną atmosferą. Pomimo swojej prostoty, jedzenie jest pyszne. Zamówiliśmy dzisiaj zestaw tapas, który zawierał sushi, gyozę, krokiety z dyni, szaszłyki z kurczaka, sałatkę z wodorostów, grillowanego węgorza i kilka innych dań. Obiad był tak przyjemny, ze na pewno tu jeszcze wrócimy.

Tulley's Tulips

As for the end of April, this morning’s weather is quite wintery. It is cold, wet and windy. And yet, we are visiting the Tulips Festival at the Tulley’s farm. Their tulip fields, set in the beautiful West Sussex countryside, are a sight to behold. There are 500 000 flowers from 100 different varieties of tulips, early, mid and late bloomers. As we visit later in the season, the early varieties have mostly lost their petals, but the late ones are in full bloom.

Jak na koniec kwietnia, dzisiejszy poranek jest wyjątkowo zimny. Jest też mokro i wietrznie. A my dzisiaj odwiedzamy Festiwal Tulipanów na farmie Tulleyów. Ich pola tulipanów, położone w pięknej okolicy West Sussex, są warte zobaczenia nawet w zimnie i mżawce. Posadzonych jest 500 000 kwiatów ze 100 różnych odmian tulipanów, kwitnących wcześnie, w środku sezonu i późno. Jako, że jest już końcówka sezonu, wczesne odmiany w większości straciły już płatki, ale późne są w pełnym rozkwicie.

Cold is such a good excuse, to get a hot chocolate, and we are also tempted by hot-dogs (me), burgers (Marcin) and Dutch sweet pancakes.

Zimno jest, wiec mamy super wymowkę, żeby sobie kupic gorąca czekoladę, ale skusiliśmy sie takze na hot-doga (ja), hamburgera (Marcin) i holenderskie placuszki.

Hilliers Gardens - Light Up

We are off to the Hillier Gardens tonight to see the “Light Up”, a set of installations by an award-winning Light Up Trails. It is much better than what we expected.

It started calmly, with a sea of glistening tulips below the purple trees. Then the trail led through some coloured glasses to a gate full of “Chinese lights” and then to a big tree where a perpetual story was told illustrated by projected images.

Dziś wieczorem wybieramy się do Hillier Gardens, aby obejrzeć „Light Up” – zestaw instalacji autorstwa wielokrotnie nagradzanego Light Up Trails. Wygląda to znacznie lepiej, niż się spodziewaliśmy.

Zaczęło się spokojnie, od morza świecących tulipanów pod purpurowymi drzewami. Następnie szlak wiódł przez kolorowe okna do bramy pełnej „chińskich świateł”, do dużego drzewa, na którym wyświetlane  były obrazy ilustrujące historię cyklu życia.

A few steps later we pass an osprey and enter an enchanted forest with a kaleidoscope of colours and soap bubbles floating around.

Kilka kroków później mijamy rybołowa i wkraczamy do zaczarowanego lasu, pełnego kolorów i fruwających się baniek mydlanych.

 Hillier House is transformed into the House of Dreams, telling us beautiful stories and then we enter a “star drop” area, where a sea of star-shaped lights drape the tall trees and luminous deer walk between them in this celestial glow.

Hillier House przekształcił się w Dom Marzeń, opowiadający piękne historie, a zaraz za nim wkraczamy w obszar spadających gwiazd, gdzie sznury świateł w kształcie gwiazdek spowijają wysokie drzewa, a świetliste jelenie przechadzają się między nimi w tym niebiańskim blasku.

We pass some luminous butterflies and stop for some street food. German sausage hot dog and a big hill of churros with chocolate sauce later, we go down through the valley full of smoke, following the trail of huge light bulbs, to pass the enchanting meadow and a moon-like gate. Now we can type in the computer a message that is then displayed on a huge screen above the lake.

Mijamy grupę świetlistych motyli i docieramy do targu z ulicznym jedzeniem. Po pożarciu hot doga z niemiecką kiełbasą i wielkiej góry churros z sosem czekoladowym schodzimy pełną dymu i świateł doliną, podążając śladem ogromnych żarówek, by później minąć zaczarowaną łąkę i przejść przez świetlistą bramę. Teraz możemy wpisać do komputera wiadomość, która następnie wyświetli się na ogromnym ekranie nad jeziorem.

We pass the Melody Garden and go around a Wonderland with a big herd of luminous reindeer. On the top of the hill, we enter a huge open-air disco, with laser beams and mirrors creating a wonderful party atmosphere. Check the video because the pictures will not do this place justice. And then we pass hope and joy installations, and it is time for the final cup of mulled wine before we head back home.

Mijamy Melody Gardens i okrążamy Wonderland z wielkim stadem świetlistych reniferów. Na szczycie wzgórza wchodzimy do ogromnej „dyskoteki” na świeżym powietrzu, gdzie kolorowe promienie laserów i lustra tworzą cudowną imprezową atmosferę. Sprawdźcie wideo, ponieważ zdjęcia nie oddają uroku tego miejsca. Następnie mijamy instalacje nadziei i radości i nadchodzi czas na ostatni kubek grzanego wina przed powrotem do domu.

Solstice Night

Garden Society produced a show again, and do we ever say no to a good dinner with entertainment? Of course, we do not. The inspiration for the show, called ”Solstice Night”, was various folklore beliefs related to winter solstice.

Garden Society znów przygotowało przedstawienie, a czy my kiedykolwiek odmawiamy dobrej kolacji z rozrywką? Oczywiście, że nie. Inspiracją do spektaklu „Noc Przesilenia” były różnorodne wierzenia folklorystyczne związane z przesileniem zimowym.  

The food was good, and the mulled wine was even better. And I will let pictures to tell the rest of the story.

 Jedzenie było dobre, a grzane wino jeszcze lepsze. Resztę tej historii pozwolę, aby opowiedziały zdjęcia.

Pickled Frog

Before heading to the Salisbury cathedral show today, we decided to grab a bite at Pickled Frog, a cosy restaurant set in a building that dates back to around 1420. It's got that charming, timber-framed feel typical of Market Square corner tenements. The roof is mostly original, 95% to be exact, the first floor is about 60% original, but sadly, just 10% of the ground floor remains from the old days.

Zanim udaliśmy się dzisiaj na pokazy w katedrze, postanowiliśmy wpaść na obiad do Pickled Frog, przytulnej restauracji mieszczącej się w budynku pochodzącym z około 1420 roku. Budynek ten jest wpisany na listę zabytków Salisbury. Dach jest w większości (95%) oryginalny, pierwsze piętro jest oryginalne w około 60%, ale niestety, tylko 10% parteru pozostało z dawnych czasów.

For starters, we went with some tapas—mozzarella sticks, jalapeño flammers, and vegetable spring rolls. For the main course, I opted for the mussels in white wine cream sauce, while Marcin chose a classic burger. The food was very decent. We rounded off the meal with hot chocolate and coffee, and then it was time to make our way to the cathedral.

Jako startery wybraliśmy tapas — paluszki mozzarelli, flammers z jalapeño i sajgonki warzywne. Jako danie główne ja wzięłam małże w sosie śmietanowym z białego wina, a Marcin klasycznego burgera. Jedzenie było bardzo przyzwoite. Zakończyliśmy posiłek gorącą czekoladą (ja) i kawą (M), a potem nadszedł czas, aby udać się do katedry.
